Two distinct sections offer different atmospheres: Magnolia Bend features elegant white mansions with manicured gardens, while Alligator Bayou offers rustic bayou cottages tucked into the woods, each with cozy charm.

Insider Tips

1
Book Alligator Bayou rooms with trundle beds if you need to sleep 5 guests — you save money compared to two rooms and get authentic theming.
2
Royal Guest Rooms are absolutely worth it for families with kids. The fiber-optic fireworks headboard creates magic that your children will never forget.
3
Don't miss the Ye Haa Bob show at River Roost Lounge — it's free, hilarious, and one of Disney's most underrated forms of entertainment.
4
Take the boat to Disney Springs at sunset. The scenic 20-minute ride along the Sassagoula River is magical and beats waiting for buses.
5
Request a room close to the main lobby or restaurants when booking — the resort is sprawling, and proximity matters for convenience.
6
Explore the river paths and gardens. The landscaping is genuinely beautiful, with mature oaks and Spanish moss creating a romantic atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Royal Guest Rooms are themed to Disney Princesses and feature unique touch-activated headboards with light and sound effects. For families with children who love princess stories — especially Tiana, Cinderella, Rapunzel, or Ariel — the extra cost (typically $30–$50 per night more than standard rooms) is absolutely worth it. The interactive headboard is a highlight guests talk about years later. For guests without young children, the standard rooms are equally comfortable at a lower price point.
Riverside is served entirely by bus for all four theme parks. Travel times typically run 15–30 minutes depending on traffic, time of day, and which park you're heading to. There's no Skyliner, monorail, or boat service to the parks (though there is a scenic Sassagoula River boat to Disney Springs). The bus service is reliable but not the fastest option — plan for extra time during peak morning park openings. Given the lower room prices compared to Skyliner-access resorts, most guests consider the bus trade-off worthwhile.
Riverside is divided into two distinct areas: the Magnolia Bend Mansions (antebellum plantation-style mansions) and the Alligator Bayou (rustic bayou-style bungalows). The Mansions feel more refined and formal, with larger buildings, fireplaces in some rooms, and a grander architectural scale. The Bayou section has a cozy, rustic character with smaller buildings and feels more like a tucked-away retreat. Both areas are beautiful and walkable to the main amenity building (Riverside Mill food court and Boatwright's). Neither is definitively better — it comes down to personal aesthetic preference.
Boatwright's is one of the better value table-service restaurants at Disney World. The Southern Louisiana-inspired menu (jambalaya, catfish, slow-roasted ribs) is filling and generally well-reviewed. The atmosphere — themed as a working boatwright's workshop with tools and an in-progress boat overhead — is genuinely charming. It's not a top-tier culinary destination like California Grill or Topolino's Terrace, but for a resort-level dinner that won't require a 60-day advance booking sprint, it's solid. Guests from French Quarter can easily walk over and dine here too.
Riverside is one of Disney's larger moderate resorts, with 2,048 rooms spread across a significant footprint. Walking from the furthest Bayou buildings to the main Riverside Mill building can take 10–15 minutes. An internal resort boat shuttle runs along the Sassagoula River and connects different areas of the property — this is the best way to get around without walking if your legs are tired. If walkability is a top priority, request a room closest to the main building when booking. Guests in the central Mansions buildings have the shortest walks to amenities.
