Trip Planning
The best time to visit depends on your priorities. For smaller crowds, visit during off-peak times: early September, late August, and mid-January through early February. For perfect weather, aim for October-November or March-April. Avoid major holidays and school breaks for the best park experience.
Most first-time visitors benefit from 4-5 days to experience all four theme parks. However, 2-3 days allows you to visit 2-3 parks, and 6+ days lets you explore parks thoroughly, enjoy resort experiences, and visit Disney Springs or water parks. Our planner helps optimize your itinerary.
Book accommodations and park tickets 6-12 months in advance for the best rates and availability. Lightning Lane selections open 30 days (or 60 for on-site guests) before arrival. Dining reservations open 60 days in advance. Our site sends reminders for key booking windows.
Lightning Lane is Disney's paid skip-the-line service. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is a daily add-on ($15–35 per person per day depending on date) that lets you book one attraction at a time throughout the day. Individual Lightning Lane is a separate per-ride purchase ($7–25 per person) for the highest-demand attractions like Tron Lightcycle Run and Guardians of the Galaxy. Our Lightning Lane Guide covers which purchases deliver the most value for different park days.
Dining reservations can be made on the My Disney Experience app or website 60 days in advance. Mobile ordering is available for quick-service restaurants. Our planner integrates reservation availability and suggests optimal dining times based on your park schedule.
On-site guests get Early Theme Park Entry (30 minutes before regular opening) at all four parks, plus Extended Evening Hours at select parks for Deluxe resort guests. You also get complimentary resort transportation and charge-to-room privileges. Off-site hotels are often significantly cheaper. Our Resort Comparison Tool helps you weigh the trade-offs based on your priorities and budget.
Tools & Features
Rope drop — arriving at park open — is the most powerful free strategy at Disney World. You'll see 5–20 minute waits on rides that hit 60+ minutes by midday. Midday (11am–3pm) is consistently the worst window for crowds; use that time for table-service dining, shows, or character meets. Waits typically improve again after 7pm. Our Rope Drop Playbooks give you a prioritized attraction order for each park.
The easiest way to share your plan with travel companions is to screenshot or bookmark your planning pages — they work on any device with no account required. For live coordination at the parks, Disney's My Disney Experience app lets your group share park reservations and Lightning Lane bookings in real time.
The budget calculator factors in lodging, park tickets, dining, Lightning Lane, and miscellaneous expenses. It includes optional costs like merchandise, photos, and activities. Historical pricing data is updated quarterly. Accuracy is typically within 10% of actual spend.
The First Trip Planner is our step-by-step guide built specifically for first-time visitors. It walks you through every major decision in order — travel dates, resort selection, which parks on which days, dining reservations, and Lightning Lane strategy — so nothing falls through the cracks. It's one of our most-used tools.
