A whitewater raft ride through an Asian river canyon, with a major drop and constant water effects. You will get wet. Plan for that or skip the ride entirely.
Kali River Rapids opened at Animal Kingdom in 1999. The ride uses 8-person circular rafts on a guided water-flume river through a themed Southeast Asian forest. The narrative is about illegal logging and environmental destruction โ you witness the damage being done to the rainforest and float past the consequences. The central feature is a single moderate drop (about 20 feet) that produces a major splash. The rest of the ride includes secondary water effects, including geysers, waterfall splashes, and unpredictable spray. Most riders end the ride at minimum damp, often soaked.
You must be at least 38โณ (97cm) to ride Kali River Rapids.
Rider Switch (child swap) is available for parties with kids under the height requirement. If your child is close to the line, the cast member at the queue entrance will measure them against the post.
You board a circular raft (8 riders facing each other in a ring). The raft enters the river and is pulled by a current through a series of jungle scenes. The first half is gentle โ passing waterfalls, animatronic monkeys, atmospheric jungle scenes.
The drop is the centerpiece. The raft climbs a small lift hill, then plunges down a 20-foot drop into a water basin. The splash drenches at least one rider per raft, often more. The rest of the ride includes spray jets and geysers around the river path.
Which rider gets the worst soaking is genuinely random โ the raft rotates as it descends, so the 'splash side' changes each cycle.
Kali River Rapids is a comfortable Lightning Lane Multi Pass pick when standby exceeds 30 minutes. Most days, standby runs 25-50 minutes during peak heat (when riders most want to get wet) and shorter mornings/evenings.
If you're prioritizing Animal Kingdom LL: Avatar Flight of Passage, Na'vi River Journey, and DINOSAUR come first. Kali is a comfortable Pick 4.

Mid-afternoon in summer (when getting wet is welcome) or late morning in cooler weather. Avoid first-thing-in-the-morning if you want to stay dry โ there's no warm-up before the splash.
The intentional drenching is the entire point in Florida heat.
The rotation of the raft means everyone takes a turn at the splash zone. Kids find it thrilling.
There's no avoiding it. Even the back rows of the raft get sprayed.
Florida winters get cold. Riding Kali in 50-degree weather is genuinely unpleasant.
Plan for wetness. Bring a poncho, dry-bag your phone, and consider waterproof sandals. Disney sells ponchos at $15 each.
Use the lockers. There are coin-operated lockers near the ride entrance. Stash phones, wallets, and dry items before riding.
Don't ride first thing. The cool morning air plus a major splash can be miserable. Wait until at least mid-morning when temperatures climb.
Re-ride if you've already committed. If you've already gotten soaked, what's another go? Many guests ride twice in a row, since the wait is the only obstacle.
